Canon EOS C70 Launched
As I write this I keep going back to Canon’s UK site, but there’s no mention of it. But a glance elsewhere, such as Canon Australia and there it is in all it’s miniaturised glory, the Canon EOS C70.
This has been a long anticipated addition to the Canon Cinema range and for us video shooters has been one we’ve been excited about since the sunsetting of the not-so-succesful Canon XC range, (for what it’s worth I love the Canon XC10/XC15!)
The first RF mounted, interchangeable lens Cinema Camera in the Canon line up in of itself is something to wax lyrical about, but once you dig into the specs, things get even more exciting for this diminutive video shooter.
Coming in marginally heavier and bigger than the hybrid EOS R5 but still smaller than the C100, form factor wise Canon seem to have hit the nail on the head here. It’s small and light enough to be super portable, one person shooting friendly, heck it’ll even fly on most gimbals. Yet the smaller size and weight hasn’t distracted from the obvious ergonomics of C70, borrowing all the best parts from it’s bigger C100 brother.
Beyond all the standard i/o connectivity and programmable buttons and controls, you have dual UHS2 SD card slots, Mini XLR, Audio control, Waveform, WB, Peaking, internal ND etc etc.
But now onto the juicy bits, the Canon C70 specs & key features:
- RF mount
- Super 35 sensor with DGO (same sensor as C300 III)
- 4K 120p no crop 4:2:2 10-bit recording
- 2K 180p super 16 crop
- In-built ND filters
- Dual mini-XLR
- Full-sized HDMI
- Dual SD card slots
- Extended Auto Focus (Dual Pixel CMOS AF + EOS iTR AF X )
- Articulating touch screen
- No recording time limits
- Dual Gain Output
- 16 Stops of Dynamic Range
There’s a huge amount here to get excited about, as a video only shooter I can’t wait to try it out. We’re expecting to seem them land in the U.K. in November with a price of around £4,800 (incl VAT) – I cannot wait!!
