Sony has previously commented on the global chip shortage and supply problems but now Canon has also issued an official statement. Canon Japan has released a statement (https://cweb.canon.jp/eos/info/supply-announcement2007/) explaining that new orders for the Canon EOS R3 could take up to 6 months to be delivered mostly due to the global shortages.
Canon Japan states that they have received orders in “excess of expectations” for the Canon EOS R3 camera and that the global parts supply shortage is causing them additional problems. The combination is causing delivery delays for consumers and for Canon’s business partners too. The company states that the products will be shipping one by one but they are expecting big delays for the EOS R3 camera and the RF14-35mm F4 L IS USM lens.
While Canon is currently thinking it might take 6 months to deliver new orders of both, the company does note that “it may take more than half a year to deliver” the products. It looks like the supply line problems and parts shortages are expected to continue will into 2022.
