Sharp’s Pocket Sized M4/3 8k Video Camera.

Is it the first 8k Vlog Camera? Well here’s what we know so far. It features a 33MP M4/3 CMOS sensor, utilising the h.265 codec.

Those lucky enough to attend CES 2020 may have caught a glimpse at the Sharp 8K ecosystem stand, where the manufacturer previewed the prototype 8K pocket cinema camera.

With a pocket friendly form factor and ‘pro-sumer’ predicted price point, this micro 4/3 sensor camera may be the surprise package of 2020 for the casual filmmaker & content creator.

Here’s what we know so far. It features a 33MP M4/3 CMOS sensor, utilising the h.265 codec. This will allow for full 16:9 8K recording onto UHS ii compliant SD cards. The video will be captured in 10bit up to 30FPS and 200MB/s. 4K & HD recording will also be available at up 60FPS.

The small body of the camera will also feature a mini-XLR input, USB-C, Clean HDMI output (capable of 8K output), headphone out & 3.5mm audio input. To the rear of the camera will be a full HD 5.5″ LCD touchscreen which fully articulates from a side hinge to form a front facing monitor if needed. So potentially, this could well be the first 8K vlog camera!!

Sharp have slated it for a second half of 2020 release and are aiming at a price point of sub $4,000, which puts it right in the bracket of Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6k & even the Panasonic Lumix S1H.

Certainly one to watch for 2020, and we can’t wait to see the first bodies being released for testing.
