Sony’s Serious Component Shortage

Sony says the semiconductor shortages are “more serious than expected”

Camera manufacturer Sony recently had an interview with the Japanese magazine Nikkei and revealed a few interesting things about their cameras. The articles is in Japanese and with the aid of Google translate, we’ve learned a few interesting things.

Sony explains that they’ve decided to suspend orders for some of their digital cameras due to the supply shortages. The problems they specifically mentioned are the shortages of semiconductors and other camera parts which isn’t something they can fix. Other manufacturers such as Nikon have also seen problems due to this.

In addition to this, Sony has commented that the problem is more serious than expected for them or their products. This is why they company is looking to narrow production down to just the new products allowing them to review designs to ensure standardised parts.
