World’s First 4-Axis Cinema Camera

DJI potentially have changed the filmmaking landscape with the introduction of the Ronin 4D.

What looks like the love child of a Canon C100 and a DJI OSMO, the Ronin 4D from DJI could well be the camera that’s set to revolutionise the filmmaking landscape. It’s worth noting that from the off, this is well and truly placed in the “pro” end of DJI’s offering with a price tag of up to almost $12,000, this certainly isn’t for us more casual creators.

But what this does do is hint at the possibilities of future imaging, stabilisation and camera tech from DJI. And what DJI have always historically done really well is trickle down the “pro” technology into more pro-sumer products, offering affordable alternatives with some of the ground breaking technology seen in their flagships. If that’s the case with the Ronin 4D, the next generation of cameras to come from DJI, could well shake up that creator marketplace.

For those of you too lazy to watch the video from DJI and don’t know what the fuss is about, the RONIN 4D is DJI’s entry into the full frame cinema camera game, with DJI (DL) and changeable lens mounts. The Zenmuse X9 is capable of DCI 8K recording in Pro-Res Raw with up to 14 Stops of DR. This is housed in an integrated 4 Axis gimbal system, creating a a truly all-in-one cinema/stedi-cam rig, ready to fly out of the box. It doesn’t stop there though, as DJI have also crammed in a host of the smart LIDAR and wireless comms tech from the leading drones into the Ronin 4d, to create a true filmmaking tool!
